Pulau Payar - Marine Park tourism

Monday, April 12, 2010
Pulau Payar
World Tourism - The sprinkling of jade green islands that makes up Pulau Payar lies just 30km south-east of Langkawi. It's just a 1-hour boat ride out to the best marine park on Malaysia's West Coast, making it an ideal choice for a day outing.

This well-preserved, uninhabited marine park extends over a number of islands, with Pulau Payar being the largest. Your base out here is the floating platform moored off Pulau Payar. But the real attraction of this platform lies below sea level. Step into the underwater observation chamber to view the marine life surrounding a reef. Want to get even closer to the swirl of fishes that make these corals their home? Grab a mask, a snorkel and fins and join the spectacle!

Are you into scuba diving? The best diving is along the reef system that skirts the south, east and west of Pulau Payar. Please check with your dive operator what the visibility is like during that time. It can vary from time to time.

There is no accommodation in Pulau Payar as it is a marine park, but that's not really an issue since Langkawi, with all its fine resorts and restaurants, is just a quick boat-ride away.

Coney Island – will be coming back

Thursday, April 8, 2010
Coney Island
State-of-the-art new rides with a roller coaster and a pendulum will release this summer at Coney Island to jump-start the reappearance of the famed Brooklyn amusement park, Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

“Coney Island is coming back, huge time,” Bloomberg said at a news meeting near the boardwalk where the decades-old Astroland rides were take apart in 2008. The new rides are being shaped by Zamperla, the world’s leading company of mechanical rides, found in Altavilla Vicentina, Italy.

Luna Park at Coney Island will release on Memorial Day weekend by 19 rides. Among them will be the Air Race, which sends riders swinging and soaring about a control tower. It will be the ride’s worldwide debut. By the summer of 2011, Scream Zone at Coney Island will present two roller coasters, go-carts and a human slingshot beginning people more than 200 feet into the air.

“We will have rides that will flick you, turn you, launch you, dive you, splash you and make the mayor desire to lose his lunch,” said David Galst, a CAI spokesman.

Not all of Coney Island’s old amusements were piece. The 1920s Cyclone roller coaster is land marked, as is Deno’s Wonder Wheel. Both will go on to be operated by their present management. The cities buy 6.9 acres of Coney Island assets in November from developer Joe Sitt for $95.6 million. That followed years of wrangling among the city and Sitt, whose idea for Coney Island was not in line with Bloomberg’s.

Officials said the park will make 330 jobs by 2011, with pressure on local hiring. In coming years, the rest of the renewal is expected to create more than 25,000 structure jobs and 6,000 lasting ones, along with billions of dollars in financial activity.

The city has assured to invest about $6.5 million toward improving the neighborhood’s rotting infrastructure in research for building more than 5,000 housing units, counting 900 affordable ones. The May opening of Luna Park is to be toasted with a fresh beer called the Coney Island Luna Lager, complete by the San Francisco-based Shmaltz Brewing Co.

It is only compose of three barangays namely: the "Yapak" in the north portion; "Balabag" in the Center and "Manoc-Manoc" in the south. The mystic of Boracay is that it was gifted with sugary-white and powder fine sand, considered one of the nature's wonders that makes Boracay's white beach famous to the world. Walking barefoot in an almost magical white sand is a fad, for the sand seems to have a therapeutic effects on the senses. What's amazing is that the sand never burns your feet, no matter how hot the day gets. With the white sand, comes the crystalline, azure water where the ocean floors can be seen sloping steeply.

During the day, the color of the sky blends with that of the sea while at night, the sands glow to give its magical splendor. The shoreline is lined with coconut palms and in the inner, higher places, the tropical forest remains. There are bat caves with bats hanging on the ceilings during the day.

Leaning Tower of Niles

Wednesday, February 24, 2010
The Leaning Tower of Niles, Illinois was finished in 1934 by entrepreneur Robert Ilg as part of a recreation park for employees of the Ilg Hot Air Electric Ventilating Company of Chicago. It is located at 6300 W. Touhy Avenue and it is a half size copy of the unique tower in Pisa, Italy, which is a Niles sister city.

Some wonder that part of the inspiration to construct the tower was to observe the 600th anniversary of the Leaning Tower of Pisa. A more likely clarification is its original functional reason, to store water for outdoor leisure swimming pools. In 1960, the descendants of Robert Ilg contributed part of the park for the building of the Leaning Tower YMCA. Other facilities of the employees' recreational park incorporated a wooden toboggan run, which was in decaying but still evident in the 1960s.

In 1991, the village of Niles, Illinois recognized a sister city pact with Pisa, Italy. A $1.2 million Renovation of the Leaning Tower of Niles was started in 1995 by Mayor Nicholas Blase and the Board of Trustees, and was finished in 1996, civilizing the structure, facade and the Plaza area. The Leaning Tower Plaza area now has four fountains and a 30-foot pool. Leaning Tower Concert Series are Summertime open-air music concerts supported by the village since the 1990s.

Excellent For: While Niagara Falls is family-oriented, touring vineyards and wine tasting is not accurately a kid-friendly movement. Build this trip a holiday there for Mom and Dad.

The best moment to go: Particular New Year's Eve actions be plentiful in the region. Peller Estates and Hillebrand Winery are holding New Year's Eve dinners which, of course, contain wine pairings.

Patagonia

Monday, November 2, 2009
The Andes mountain range shows its beauty in the Patagonian provinces. Millennial silent forests with native vegetable species are extended along the shores of glistening waters. On top of the mountains, nature overflows with granite peaks and ice fields spreading their glacier tongues into lakes of unsurpassable beauty.

Imposing mammals and sea birds, half-way between real life and fantasy, spend certain seasons on the rough coasts of Patagonia where they complete part of their life cycle. Seals colonies play on the islets and sandbanks. The world’s most important southern elephant seal continental colony is located in Peninsula Valdes. Every year, southern right whales come to Nuevo and San Jose gulfs to breed. Patagonian hares, “nandues” (South American ostrich) and “guanacos” run about the steppes, and the largest colony of Magellanic penguins in the world is located in Punta Tombo. This life cycle repeated since time immemorial, unfolds itself in front of the astonished visitors’ eyes.

In the south, Tierra del Fuego and the World’s southernmost city, Ushuaia, are the gateway towards the vast and mysterious Antarctica.

Korekol

Monday, October 26, 2009
Korekol
A tunnel cave connecting a sink in the downstream end of valley in pinnacle karst to a resurgence at the rim of (the locally) shallow limestone outcrop below Matrongkol. An inspiring entrance (15m wide, 3.5m high) leads to a boulder collapse obstructed by driftwood but a squeeze to the top of a 2m climb down gains a dirty, shallow pool from where a north-south running passage (on average 7 m wide, 2.5 m high) continues below a daylight window (15m above) to enter a Y-junction. Here North South passage turns to the right, continuing all the way (185m, inclined by-7º) to the resurgence as a North-North East-South-South West passage. Some 50m from the Y-junction, the main drag splits into two parallel 20m-passages (the right/north-western one requires swimming but the left is dry). They unite at a cross-rift chamber, split again, and re-unite once more to continue from then onward as a level passage to a daylight-lit collapse area at the rim of the limestone outcrop.
