UNWTO - Top 10 tourism destinations

The United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) has graded Malaysia the mainly traveled destination in the world in 2009.

Tourism Minister, Datuk Seri Ng Yen Yen said though 2009 had been a difficult year for tourism worldwide, it was someway a good year for the Malaysian tourism industry. Malaysia attracts 23 million travelers in 2009.

In 2009, there have been only small changes in the ranking of the top ten destinations by global tourist arrivals, while the ranking in terms of tourism receipts remains unaffected evaluate to the 2008 list.

The first three places in both arrivals and revenues are still engaged by France, Spain and the USA even though in a diverse order.

In 2009, France attracts 74 million tourists and continues to lead the ranking of the world's main tourism destinations in conditions of arrivals and ranks third in revenues.

The USA ranks first in receipts with US$94bil and second in arrivals with 54 million travelers in 2009. Spain maintains its position as the second major earner worldwide and the primary in Europe,

and position third in arrivals with 52 million tourists.
